Bambra, VIC, Australia
Sleeps 5 · 2 bedrooms · 1 bathroom
A self-contained, two-bedroom cottage in the Otway Ranges with an Arctic theme. Blue and white decor, Inuit art, books and artefacts reflect the owners' years in the Canadian Arctic. Family and dog friendly, with a large fenced area out front. Wheelchair accessible: ramp entry, widened doors, wheel-in shower, and wheel-under benches, cooktop and laundry trough. Split air conditioning, a log fire and a washer/dryer.
Beds: a queen bed in the master bedroom, a queen and a single in the second bedroom, and a sofa bed in the lounge. Sleeps 5, or 7 with the lounge sofa bed.
Dogs are welcome, and so are assistance animals. Each cottage has its own yard that connects to the verandah, with shade and shelter. For your dog we provide a bed with blanket, bowls, homemade treats, rainwater on arrival and furniture cover sheets if they want the couch. There is a large, securely fenced dam where dogs can run off leash and swim. The cottages are 50 to 75 metres apart, and Otway Forest Park is just beyond the back fence. Dog-friendly beaches are within about half an hour. Dogs may be left at the cottage while you go out, at your own discretion.
On the property: bushland that backs onto Otway Forest Park, with bush walks and mountain biking from your door. Neds Retreat is the recreation area, with a pool table and games and a gas BBQ under cover. Meet Cookie the alpaca, the sheep and the chickens (the eggs are finders keepers). The dam is stocked with yabbies, with nets, strings and a bucket provided. Each cottage has a bonfire area for evening fires outside the fire season. Bambra tennis courts are 3 km down the road and free for guests.
Accessibility: ramp entry, widened doors, extra space around the furniture, a wheel-in shower with rails and quarter-turn taps, and wheel-under benches, cooktop and laundry trough. It does not feel clinical, and it suits guests of all abilities.
